Introducing WinApe an emulator of the Amstrad CPC

I came across this emulator and website mentioned whilst I was checking the newsgroup news: comp.sys.amstrad.8bit and thought I'd take a look at it. Although my main interest is in the PCW I have owned, used and repaired most models of CPC as well. The thought of having a CPC to play with again without using valuable space in the flat was tempting.

I downloaded WinAPE20A3.zip from the site and it proved to be 705KB in size.Unzipped it went to a rather large 4.23MB but proved to be quite a sophisticated program, bringing up a screen which looks rather like a CPC screen upon which is a box with two options F1 which brings up "help" and F2 to run "Burning Rubber"; remember that?

On my computer, at least, the CPC viewing area is not central, but when I moved the window by dragging the blue strip at the top, a toolbar was revealed at the bottom.

The whole program, including Help, is well put together and promises to provide a lot of interest. I'm not very interested in game playing but there are myriads of free programs out there for the CPC. I enjoy simply finding out what makes things tick and the history files in the help program look interesting.

I'm writing this in haste as I want to upload this website today, but I hope to have more to report soon
